We’re now at the final homestretch of 2014! I have taught my last official class of 2014 and I’m now back in Sydney getting ready for the holiday season with my family. I am fully expecting to fill the next few weeks with lots of food, fun and laughter ๐
I have put together a list of my favourite things for 2014 and I’m planning for this list to be a yearly thing from now on. The wonderful people at Agbay have also offered you guys 15% off all their levelers. They have only offered this once before (last year, with me) and it’s so special that it’s only a 24 hour offer and only though their website. Use the code SWC15 when you check out. The offer is valid from midnight on the 14th of December until 11.59pm on the 15th of December EST. (That’s 4pm Sydney, Australia time on the 15th of December until 3.59pm on the 16th of December)
Together with that, I’m introducing you to some of my favourite people and I am also offering two packs of giveaways of my favourite things. See more details below!
1. Agbay Cake Leveler
This is the Rolls Royce of cake levelers. I am aware there are other on the market, but nothing will compare to the quality of the Agbay. This is one serious cake leveler and I admit I debated for a year before getting one but my only regret after getting it, is that I didn’t get it sooner. It cuts down production time and I have never met any other decorator who purchased one and didn’t think it was a beautiful product – just check out the testimonials on their website. They are offering 15% off any of their levellers and it’s for 24 hours only, so don’t wait!
2. The Business of Baking Blog (First picture)
Michelle Green writes a wonderful blog jam packed with information about running a cake decorating business and her experiences within the industry. It’s a must read, Michelle tells it like it is and one of the things I admire most about her and her blog is her ability to tell the truth, no matter how hard it might be. She’s just launched an online e-course today – 30 days where she helps you and your business be more awesome. Check it out on her blog.
3. Sugar Art Studio (Middle picture)
Giovanna from Sugar Art Studio makes insanely amazing flowers and I was lucky enough to take a class with her last year. I don’t think she gets enough credit for the beautiful work. She also sells a range of her own custom made flower cutters too. Check them out on her website and be blown away!
4. Baking Arts (Last picture)
Not only is Richard from Baking Arts a fantastic host and baker, but he has also now opened his first shop in San Francisco (San Mateo). It is packed filled with goodies and my book so make sure you stop by and check it out or visit his website for classes and to and buy online.
5. Silicon Rolling Pin
I seriously travel with this rolling pin.
6. Metal Balling Tool Set
I find this much smoother and easier to use than the plastic ones.
7. Craft Knife
Super sharp and perfect for those tiny details.
8. Waterbrush
Best. Thing. Ever. I love not having to worry about dipping my brush in water.
9. Acetate
So many uses for such a simple item. I use it to smooth my cakes and scrape my ganache for 3D cakes.
10. Clear Smoothers
Perfect for creating those sharp edges because you can see through them.
11. Acupuncture Needles
No more needle marks on your cake!
Comment on this post to enter to win items 5-11. Entries close 11.59pm on December 31st 2014 – Sydney, Australia time.
12. Craftsy
There are a lot of online learning options out there but Craftsy is by far the most interactive, advanced and also provides the most variety. You get to ask your teachers questions directly and can also download the videos onto your ipad or iphone to watch offline. Best of all, once you purchase the videos, it’s all yours, forever, to watch whenever you please ๐ Don’t forget my website always has a list of my favourite classes and discount links to all of them.

December 16, 2014 at 9:57 am (3 years ago)Hey Melissa,
Most of the items on there are generic items I get from a wholesaler. But the water brush is from pentel ๐ Hope that helps. I will try and find out the brand of the rolling pin, since the original company I used to buy from many years ago is no longer around.

December 29, 2014 at 9:07 pm (3 years ago)Love cakes/ sweets all my life but recently been introduced to the world of creating them and now totally hooked… Never realised how much the cake creation has evolved. Just recently started to try and build up my equipment collection, must admit at the start I was totally ill prepared and had to improvise which made things harder or near impossible. Hoping one-day soon I’ll beable to do one of your creative master classes. Thanks Sharon your creations and collaborations have been really inspiring to me especially at a time in my life where I was looking for a creative outlet and find something I truly loved to do + make others happy with having crested something that gave them a sense of joy.
